Base Station Software

Base Stations provide the wireless network access for the End Devices, relaying data to and from the Senet Network Server via IP backhaul (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, 3 or 4 G cellular or satellite). As part of relaying data from End Devices, Gateways include RF meta-data about the data’s reception characteristics. The Network Server in turn leverages this information in real time to optimize the End Device. Base Stations are deployed to meet application, geographical, and End Device density coverage requirements. Coverage depends on topology characteristics and varies among rural, suburban, and urban environments. To meet these various needs, Gateways are available in a variety of sizes and may be deployed to provide indoor and outdoor coverage.

In order to integrate your Gateway with Senet's Network, it must be on-boarded. This process involves:

Once approval is received your Gateway's packet forwarder will communicate with Senet's network. The level of security depends on the packet forwarder implementation. Currently Senet supports the following Packet Forwarder options:

Senet Packet Forwarder

Senet’s Packet forwarder provides secure, reliable end-to-end device communication with fully remote management and monitoring supported by the Network Server. Senet currently offer two types of installs:

Semtech Packet Forwarder

A legacy forwarder typically used by developers during early-stage product development as many manufacturers pre-install it on their Gateways. It uses UDP communication (unsecured), provides minimal Device Class support, no traffic filtering, and any modification to its preconfigured channel plan must be performed manually. Onboarding requires simple configuration and registration.

Semtech LoRa Basics Station

Also typically used by developers during early-stage product development, LoRa Basics Station fulfils all tasks related to basic packet forwarding functionality for LoRaWAN. Its WebSocket implementation offers secure authentication along with limited channel plan configuration through the Network Server. However, traffic filtering is not supported. Onboarding requires simple configuration and registration.

Note

Base Station registration and Software installation is only required for devices that are new to the Senet Network. If Senet provided the Gateway, no further action is necessary.

Semtech Basics Station – Senet Verified Gateways

Senet seamlessly supports Standard Semtech Basics Station integrations and will work with most Basics Stations equipped Base Stations even if it is not listed in the below table.

The Semtech Basics Station is configured via multiple files or through a user interface depending on the Base Station manufacturer and/or the Base Station firmware version. For full details please read the Generic Basics Station page.

Below are the generic requirements to configure a Secured Basics Station to operate with the Senet LoRaWAN Network Server.
